A Platform for enhanced collaboration and sustainability

Dassault Systèmes describes its 3DEXPERIENCE platform as a transformative tool for industries aiming to create sustainable innovations.

The platform offers virtual twin experiences — digital models that emulate real-world objects and systems — allowing companies to optimise their production procedures, manage product lifecycles and encourage global collaboration.

In automotive manufacturing, this innovative technology answers the growing demands for electrification, enhanced connectivity and self-driving vehicle technology, elevating product quality, promoting part reuse and simplifying intricate production workflows.

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform supports more than 350,000 clients globally in overcoming these challenges, thereby reducing both costs and time spent in development.

Laurence Montanari, Vice President of the Transportation and Mobility Industry at Dassault Systèmes, says: "Automakers are under pressure to deliver new products and functions quickly and cost-effectively.

Laurence Montanari, Vice President of the Transportation and Mobility Industry, Dassault Systèmes,

"Volvo Cars excels in developing unique vehicle experiences. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform will provide the technology to build these best-in-class experiences by combining hardware and software development.”

Having extensively used Dassault Systèmes’ CATIA applications, which form a significant part of its design and engineering arsenal, Volvo benefits from familiarity as it integrates its data into the new platform.

This familiarisation facilitates the migration and allows the consolidation of various tools into one multifunctional and scalable system that considerably enhances efficiency and teamwork while addressing regulatory compliance, test validation and traceability challenges.

Driving forward with innovative tools

The engineers at Volvo Cars will employ several tailored industry solutions developed on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, including:

  • Efficient multi-energy platform: Streamlines the development of diverse energy systems.
  • Global modular architecture: Promotes flexibility and part reuse.
  • Smart, safe & connected: Focuses on integrating advanced safety features and connectivity.
  • Sustainable multi-functional vehicle: Enhances the sustainability of designs.

These specialised solutions enable real-time collaboration across various locations, enhancing the overall efficiency and effectiveness of vehicle development processes.

A Leadership commendation in climate actions

Volvo Cars' dedication to sustainability is further exemplified by its CEO, Jim Rowan, being named on TIME's 2024 Climate Leaders List.

This acknowledgement highlights Volvo’s firm commitment to sustainable practices and its proactive measures toward achieving net-zero emissions and fostering circular business models.

The TIME100 Climate Leaders List identifies individuals making measurable contributions to tackling climate change. His inclusion highlights Volvo’s dedication to a sustainable future through net-zero emissions and circular business practices.

“I’m honoured to be included on the TIME100 Climate Leaders List among individuals driving impactful change," comments Jim.

"This recognition reflects the collective efforts of everyone at Volvo Cars. It takes thousands of dedicated people to drive our sustainability agenda forward and we are united by a common ambition: to reduce the use of fossil fuels and take the actions required to advance the climate agenda.

"We are at a pivotal moment in history and the shift from fossil fuels to clean energy has never been more urgent. Electrification offers a powerful opportunity to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality and create more sustainable jobs.

"However, real progress needs collaboration and everyone can play their part. That includes businesses delivering on their sustainability ambitions, consumers choosing brands wisely, Governments prioritising clean energy through stable and supportive policies and the financial sector accelerating capital allocation toward sustainable growth."

With the Dassault Systèmes’ platform unified with Volvo Cars’ innovational spirit, we see significant progress in redefining the development of electric vehicles and sustainable mobility solutions.
