Captured CO2 can also be used to make building materials, fuels, and for enhanced oil recovery
Carbon Clean has partnered with Montz to enhance CycloneCC technology, delivering compact, efficient and scalable carbon capture solutions

Carbon Clean, the UK’s leading carbon capture business, has announced a strategic supplier agreement with Montz, a Koch Engineered Solutions (KES) company based in Germany.

Montz is set to provide patented packing technology for CycloneCC’s rotating packed beds (RPBs) – essential for achieving high efficiency CO2 capture.

The agreement completes the supply chain for Carbon Clean’s modular CycloneCC carbon capture technology (CCT) and represents a step closer to full commercialisation.

Created in Germany, this advanced packing solution harnesses centrifugal force to boost capture efficiency, making CycloneCC an ideal choice for the space given the cost constraints faced by industries like steel and manufacturing.

Inside the Montz agreement

Montz will ensure a rigorous supply chain for the packing technology of the RPBs by using Carbon Clean’s CycloneCC CCT.

This patented metal packing, manufactured by Montz, sits within the RPB.

The centrifugal force generated by the RPB boosts emitted CO2 absorption, amplifying the high performance of Carbon Clean’s proprietary APBS-CDRMax solvent and the metal packing.

APBS-CDRMax captures CO2 from industrial flue gases or off-gases emitted from power plants, boilers, kilns and chemical facilities using Amine-Promoted Buffer Salts (APBS).

With this strategic agreement, Carbon Clean will also have access to several KES internal capabilities globally to continue to explore innovation possibilities for commercialisation and scaling of the CycloneCC technology.

Aniruddha Sharma, Chair and CEO of Carbon Clean

Aniruddha Sharma, Chair and CEO of Carbon Clean, explains: “Signing this agreement with Montz completes the final piece of the jigsaw for our CycloneCC supply chain. This is an important step towards the product’s full commercialisation, accelerating the global deployment of industrial carbon capture.

“Montz’s proven, specialist expertise, combined with Koch Engineered Solutions’ global footprint, strongly positions Carbon Clean for delivery at scale. This announcement illustrates to customers, partners and investors how we’re meeting demand for CycloneCC.”

Montz’s technology

Montz specialises in thermal fractionation technology and mass transfer solutions, offering a wide range of products and services, including engineered column systems and complete engineering services for distillation plants.

The firm is a leader in providing structured packings, trays and process systems for various industries including chemical, fine chemical, oleochemical and pharmaceutical sectors.

It also provides technology solutions for renewables, alcohol, food and solvent recovery.

Montz’s new RPBs will be distributed via global facilities owned by KES, enabling fast, efficient regional transportation.

Sairam Potaraju, Managing Director at Montz, comments: “This is a win-win partnership, not only for KES and Carbon Clean but also for our customers, as it aims to make carbon capture technology affordable, modular and scalable.

“This agreement is in line with our philosophy of deploying our advantaged capabilities to high-impact opportunities and breakthrough technologies. We look forward to continuing this exciting journey with Carbon Clean.”

Carbon Clean’s CycloneCC CCT

Carbon Clean’s CycloneCC C1 series is a fully-modular and columnless carbon capture solution designed to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

The launch comes amid the looming 2030 deadline for achieving a 45% reduction in global emissions.

Hard-to-abate industries are facing increasing pressure to decarbonise, but more than 50% of industrial emitters lack the space required to deploy conventional carbon capture plants.

Carbon capture and storage can capture more than 90% of CO2 emissions from industrial facilities and power plants

Key features and reasons for Cyclone CCT include:

  • Capture Capacity: Handles CO₂ concentrations from 3% to 20%, capturing up to 100,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually
  • Space and Material Efficiency: Utilises RPB technology, eliminating traditional columns, resulting in a 70% reduction in height and a 35% decrease in steel usage compared to conventional systems
  • Compact Design: The unit's footprint is up to 50% smaller than traditional carbon capture plants, with the largest equipment sizes reduced by a factor of 10
  • Cost Reduction: Prefabricated, skid-mounted modules facilitate easier transport and installation, potentially lowering total installed costs by up to 50%
  • Operational Efficiency: The proprietary APBS-CDRMax solvent reduces energy demand by 10-25%, decreases corrosion by a factor of 20, minimises degradation by a factor of 10 and has a lifespan five times longer than conventional solvents.

This strategic partnership between Carbon Clean and Montz marks a significant milestone in the commercialisation of CycloneCC technology.

By integrating Montz's patented packing and leveraging KES' global capabilities, Carbon Clean is positioned to deliver a modular, scalable and cost-efficient carbon capture solution.

With the CycloneCC's compact design, high efficiency and reduced costs, this collaboration addresses the critical need for decarbonisation in hard-to-abate industries, paving the way for widespread adoption ahead of the 2030 emissions reduction targets.
